How To Submit

Chicago Urban Art Retreat Submission Policy

General Directions for Submitting Artwork

  1. Please send digital images of your original art to contact@urbanartretreat.com. Make sure your art is signed!
  2. Indicate which art show you would like to submit for. We will carefully review and consider your artwork.
  3. Once accepted, we will contact you via email. Read these guidelines and follow them carefully.
  4. Prepare your pieces to be formally presented in the gallery. Label the art, with your name and the title of the piece only, on the back of each art piece you send in. Do not write anything else on the back of your art!
  5. Install display-ready wire on the back of each piece that you want to be included in the show. If a hook is used on the back of the artwork, it must be claw type and only one in the center. The curator prefers a single wire on the back.
  6. Deliver your art pieces to the Liz Long Gallery at Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center by appointment or send them via mail/UPS/FedEx. The artist is responsible for all transportation costs to and from the art gallery. Please send the art to arrive in the time period the gallery asks for them. Feel free to ask the curator for dates.
  7. Send an email of an artist statement about you and your art, and a narrative about the art you are sending to be included in the art show.
  8. Include two copies of a signed inventory sheet you create that includes all of your contact information at the top…… include a list of all the pieces you send, including the title, size, description, media, and price or NFS. You create the inventory sheets yourself and send it with your art to the gallery. Artists receive 70% of all sales with 30% going to Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center.
  9. If you live locally, you are urged to attend your art reception and any associated discussions possible. Whether you live nearby or far away, all artists will invite their support network (family members, friends, coworkers, and clients) to attend the opening reception and associated discussions they are interested in. Artists are asked to help publicize the art show online, on their Facebook page, Twitter, etc. The gallery audience consists of clients and friends of the artists.
  10. Artists may pick up their art on the last day of the show at 4 p.m. or by appointment within 4 days of the end of the show or pay a daily fee beginning on the 5th day. Artists who live far away must contact UPS or FedEx themselves, and ask the carrier to pick up their art on an agreed-upon date. (The gallery must agree on the date and will re-package the artwork).
