Do you think you would like to help us get the word out about our Peace Parks Project?
…volunteers transforming vacant lots into peace parks in North Lawndale …..we are taking back 10 vacant lots and creating beauty where there was none, planting grass and flowers and trees…making green space for folks to sit on benches to read the paper, kids to roll on the grass, young people to stroll along pathways and enjoy nature. Everyone will view the peace sculptures and abstract sculptures paying homage to African American heroes, plus large "puzzle murals" filled with painted portraits of African American heroes created by hundreds of area children .
If so, would you please urge everyone you know to support our organization, and PPP in particular. We are looking for volunteers to join us on Saturdays at 2p.m. for organizational meetings, plus, donations both cash and inkind for the Peace Parks of North Lawndale project!

Our executive director, Dianna C. Long accepts an award for her humanitarian efforts through her work at Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center. She says- "I am so very committed to contributing to leveling the playing field the people who could be viewed as the have-nots occupy. The distance between the haves and the have-nots seems to increase. The difference between those who are humane and those who are not humane increases substantially each year. People increasingly become more desensitized to the pain of others." I cannot just sit by and watch this happen.

See the Black Experience Art Show from October 18 opening reception from 1-4 through November 29 at 4p.m..
Located in North Lawndale, this gallery features artists who are under-represented in the art world. The gallery also presents theme shows focused on social justice issues. A steppingstone gallery for new artists and artists trying to break into the Chicago art scene, its artists are local, from other states, and even from other parts of the world. Artists seeking answers, experience, a place to begin their exhibition careers, and a way to begin their careers in the USA; artists are glad to find a welcoming gallery who understands the struggle of modern day artists.
The Chicago Black Artists Show is all about today's African American Artists- who they are, what their interests are, where they are coming from. These are artists who are expressing themselves and are showing as part of a group show of black artists- powerful and strong.
CUARC will host an opportunity for artists new to exhibiting their art to attend a workshop to answer their questions called-
Exhibiting Your Art ! The workshop is planned for November 8 at 2p.m.
The Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center will hold a free workshop to answer questions with longtime artist and curator, Dianna C. Long responding to queries from artists who attend. We will discuss the importance of support for artists, where to exhibit, art organizations, how to make your art display-ready, how to present it, an online presence, and more. CHECKOUT THE GUIDELINES TO ENTER THE EXHIBIT Artists need to send art images ASAP. Artists may also apply in person by appt. Ultimately, every artist will make an appt. to bring their art to the gallery once accepted to the show. This show will be a mix of very experienced artists and those new to the art scene.
